Who We Are
Iron Point forensics started out as “Iron Point Forensic Consulting” on 18 July 2006 in the Bradford Ontario area. The company at that time consisted of one employee, Greg Olson. Greg had an idea that proper screens were required to rocess outdoor crime sense where the soil or fire debris could be processed with ease. To further that, a quick and efficient method for changing the screens between scenes to prevent cross-contamination issues was developed. A metal fabricator worked closely with the design and shortly thereafter the quick-change screening system was borne.
The design was altered twice in the coming months to assist in the ability to screen scenes with little impact on the personnel who are utilizing the system. As the screens were produced, police agencies and fire services on both sides of the border bought them and put them to work. It was while this new system was being developed and employed that the price of aluminum became so expensive that the screens could not be produced in a cost-efficient manner and the program was shelved.
Iron Point Forensic Consulting has taken on a new path with the birth of Iron Point Forensics, a company now dedicated to delivering cutting edge training initiatives to not only the world of law enforcement but also encompassing those involved in the coroner system. As such, several courses have been developed with the first Human Osteology course being offered in Barrie this coming September.
The Human Osteology course is an intensive course that takes a first-year university osteology course and condenses it into a forty-hour hands-on course. At the end of the forty hours, the course candidate will have a good working knowledge of the human osteological assemblage. Coupled with this training, will be an introduction to faunal material (animal bones) to assist the candidate in determining animal vs human bone.
Iron Point Forensics is proud to have the best forensic instructors on board as part of the team offering a wide variety of expertise and case experience.
Here are just a few of the courses that we are currently developing for future offerings;
1) Recovery of Human Remains – Rural Settings.
2) Recovery of Human Remains – Fire Settings.
3) Fragmentary Osteology.
